Travelling is very much a hobby, and like all hobbies, there are those who like it, and those who don’t. While we are home loving people who prefer to snuggle up in their computer room most days, we do love travelling.
We love experiencing different cultures, eating yummy food, and being humbly reminded of how big the world is and how small our problems are. Part of the reason why we pursue FIRE is so we can quit our jobs and travel the world.
When we graduated college, my husband and I made it our goal to take a vacation and travel to one of our bucket list destination every year. Even if it means we might not have as high of a saving rate as we want for the year, and might have to postpone our FIRE date.
It’s a trade off we’re making to prevent ourselves from burnouts, and to experience life as we go through it. I’m a firm believer of what you see, feel, and experience in your 20s, 30s, 40s will be different from your 50s and on. And the money we spend now, the money that we invest in our 20-something and 30-something selves to experience things we wouldn’t experience unless we travel, is well worth it.
It is better to travel ten thousand miles than to read ten thousand books.Chinese Proverb
